Close defeat at Walsham

Walsham-le-Willows  198 - 7

J Bryant 52 Not Out

Hartest and Coldham Hall CC 181 all out

Rupert Melville-Ross 50,B Atkinson 36, D Hodge 26,C Long 22.

The weather forecast was correct and the sun shone brightly down on Suffolk and Cricket was played, at last a game.

Captain Ben Atkinson took a strong team to Walsham and the below information is bits gleaned from him as the Webmaster was enjoying himself on the golf course and bumped into our old colleague Dan Tatum who says he is recovering from a meniscus problem similar to Steve "the ghost" Ryder who played today.

Also making his debut was Jamie White working his magic behind the stumps, plus another appearance from Rupert Melville-Ross.

The report is sketchy I only have the book plus the skipper came in under the weather went straight to bed, the score book was not fully complete and told that the bowlers were the wrong way round in the book for the opposition.

My guess is the skipper put them in or they won toss and choose to bat, Melville- Ross and Charlie Long opened the bowling and made some in roads keeping the score down plus getting the early wicket of Butler.

Hodge took three wickets and Long two plus three catches [one was Hodge off his own bowling] the other two I have nothing in the book.

Two run outs but the main man who has haunted us before, Bryant made 52 not out in there total of 198 for seven.

Hartest and Coldham reply was as normal a fast start with Roberts falling for 7 and the skipper getting a brisk 36, Hodge and can only guess Ross made a big stand, with Rupert making 50 including two sixes.

The damage was done by either Forbes or Rothon taking 7 wickets of the innings but again the book was insufficiently done and mistakes made with the exception of one of them took seven wickets which annihilated the lower order.

To only loose by 17 runs is by no means a disgrace in a much tougher league and hopefully the record books with be corrected at a later date including who took the catches etc.

Next we move on to a home game against Bardwell and be nice to see the Richards Oval after a few weeks being away from the hallowed turf.

Webmaster.
